چکیده

ATHLETE is the All-Terrain, Hex-Limbed, Extra-Terrestrial Explorer, developed as part of the NASA "Technology Maturation Program" which sought to increase the technology readiness of advanced concepts in preparation for the return of humans to the moon in the next decade. ATHLETE has six wheels on limbs that allow it to roll rapidly at low power over moderate terrain, and to walk or climb over extreme terrain. The top speed of this vehicle is about 10 km/h, and the limb actuators are sized to allow vertical movement of the wheels at about 10% of that speed, so that active suspension should be possible on terrain with undulations having a slope up to about 10%. Brian Wilcox is the Principal Investigator of ATHLETE, and will describe the development of this vehicle, its performance in two recent field tests, and plans for the future. Enhancement of vehicle stability by adaptive fuzzy and active geometry suspension system

In this paper, the enhancement of vehicle stability and handling is investigated by control of the active geometry suspension system (AGS). This system could be changed through control of suspension mounting point’s position in the perpendicular direction to wishbone therefore the dynamic is alternative and characteristics need to change. For this purpose, suitable controller needs to change...

Vertical Dynamics Modeling and Simulation of a Six-Wheel Unmanned Ground Vehicle

Vertical dynamics modeling and simulation of a six-wheel unmanned military vehicle (MULE) studied in this paper. The Common Mobility Platform (CMP) chassis provided mobility, built around an advanced propulsion and articulated suspension system gave the vehicle ability to negotiate complex terrain, obstacles, and gaps that a dismounted squad would encounter. Aiming at modeling of vehicle vertic...

On the mobility of all-terrain rovers

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the locomotion performance of all-terrain rovers employing rocker-type suspension system. Design/methodology/approach – In this paper, a robot with advanced mobility features is presented and its locomotion performance is evaluated, following an analytical approach via extensive simulations. The vehicle features an independently controlled four...

Terrain-adaptive Generation of Optimal Continuous Trajectories for Mobile Robots

The problem of generating continuous trajectories for motion over general 3D terrain is important. The more naïve and common approach of compensating, in the execution phase, via feedback control, for an incorrect flat terrain assumption, is not always viable. The flat terrain assumption is also almost never necessary since the terrain shape must already be known for autonomous vehicles to oper...

Motion Dynamic Simulations and Experiments of an Exploration Rover on Natural Terrain

This paper investigates a physical model of the wheel traction in the relationship of the motion dynamics, and thereby studies the cases where a rover negotiates with natural rough terrain, slips and stacks on a steep slope. Experiments are carried out with a rover test bed to observe the physical phenomena and extract essential parameters, and the dynamic simulations are carried out to be comp...
